MINING MATTERS.

Last Chance.-A small parcel of 4 tons has been crushed at tho Tramway Battery for the shareholders of tho last Ohaoco claim, Earaka, from which a yield of 3 ozs.was tho result. This was a parcel which remained from the previous crushing, which tho shareholders were then unable to forward on account of tho bad state of the roads.

Hock* Point.-A parcol of 7 tons from tho Rocky Point claim, Earaka, was crushed at the Una Battery for a yield of 4ozs 13dwfs gold. Ohinkmuki QwMz.-Tlie trial ton of stono crushed for tho Brown and party from tho Fern Flat district, Ohinemuri, did not prove payable. Tho exact yield is not to hand, but it only amounts to a tow dwts.

Golden CALF.-Betorting for this company took placo yesterday. The present crushing has been carried on at tho Prince Alfred Battery, and tho force employed during the fortnight was varied, from C to 17 head of stampers Tho return was a good payable one, amounting to 130ozs gold, Tho average was not quite an ounce to the ton, for thero were about 160 tons reduced. The manager has niado arrangements and started crushing at tho Herald battery, with its full force, 20 head of stampers. He will still employ 12 head at the Prince Alfred Mill, but increased power was necessary to rcduco tho quantity of stuff which is available, for tho lodo is of such a large sizo that tho stuff has accumulated with great rapidity. Tho only disadvantage now felt in| tho mine is'that the supply of air is deficient in the workings, but to remedy this, a cross-cut is being driven to tho Otago mine, where communication with tho workings of the latter will be effected, and there will then be amplo ventilation secured. This will probably bo completed in about 3 weeks, and with the increased facilities thus afforded, thero will be no difficulty found in keeping up the supply for the largo crushing force now employed. MoANATAURi.-This company's gold was molted at the Bank of .New Zealand yesterday, and was reduced to a bar weighing 3190zs 15dwfs.

Invebness Tribute.—A first crushing for Lapham and party, who have taken a section of tho Inverness mine on tribute, was finished ypsterday at tho Moanataiari battery, but the yield was a very moderate one, only amounting to 18ozs 18dwts melted gold from '40 tons of stone.

Golden CBOWN.—There has not been any work going on in this company's mino for somo time past, but tho manager will start operations next week vtiili a limited number of hands to prospect tho old levels and tako out some blocks for crushing. It is not intended at present to start any new works, but a meeting of the company is to be held shortly to decide on future operations. It is probable that a low level will be opened from somo of Jtlio adjoining mines. Old Whau.—Fow that the mino is well ventilated, the manager is able tb push forward operations on the large reef which he has opened in the 113-feet level, and tho prospects continue very encouraging, The lode is 14 feet wide, and shows gold frequently, Thero was a very nice show yesterday, but the manager experiences great difficulty in keeping tho stampers going in consequence of the great scarcity of firewood. Tenders for a ' large supply havo been called for, and in tho meantime an arrangement has been mado by the manager for a limited supply, but this does not come to hand in sufficient quantity to keep up steam, and the consequence is that since tho last cleaning up for the company there has not been more than three full days' crushing. There will be a cleaning up and retorting for the company at the end of the week, and probably by that limo there will be sufficient wood to carry on steady crushing. The manager entertains no doubt regarding tho payable character of tho lode. In fact, so far as can be seen, the prospects are excellent, but its worth will hardly bo known thoroughly until thero is a fair month's crushing at it.

_ Black Angvl.—Tlio two tribute parties who are working the Black Angel mine havo amalgamated, and aro,,lhercfore able to carry on operations to greater advantage. In tho upper level, what appears to be a find of somo importance has taken place in a cross-cut which has been driven a few feet into tho hangingside of tho main reef workings. A lino lode showing gold has como to hand, and tho man' aro now busily accumulating stuff for tho mill, and will commence orushing shortly. Queen of Beauit.—Thero is overy prospect so far of another rich gold return this fortnight from tho Queen of Beauty mine, and should the present week's run be as good as last, tho yield will bo at least 700oza for tho current fortnight. _ MonAbch.—Betorling for tho Monarch is not yet finished. Tho Moanataiari battery at which tho. stuff has been crushed was idlo yestorday, and tho treatment of tho tailings could not bo completed, Tho return will be to hand to-day, but tho yield will be moderate andscarcely on account of tho great difficulty experienced in gelling the stuff down to the flat.
