The Tairua Goldfield.

(FBOM OUB OWN BEPOBTEB.)

Tunvi, Tuesday. The weather -the last two days has prevented all out-door work of any nature, and the bulk of the men who are at present in camp are debarred from prospecting or surface operations. In connection with this tho number of men who are at the Thames make the place look miserable, and I do not expect that any interesting news will be collected within the next fewdays. To-day the rain is descending in torrents, and the passage up was anything but pleasant. A further in-' sfcalment of men are just passing down to the Thames, viz, thoso from the Consolation claim, who have gone with the intention of arraDgiDg to place machinery on-their ground. As stated some days ago, it was the intention of the shareholders of this claim to send a few cwt of stone to crush, but the non-arrival of the pack-horses has prevented this being done, although the stone is bagged ready for removal. A mullocky lead was discovered tho. other day, which shows a little gold, and .this is being followed up in order to see if any increase in the size takes place. The ground adjacent is being rapidly absorbed. ■ tfo less than 10 acres were pegged out yesterday, which includes the Tookey No. 1 and Belle Brandon claims. The nature of 'the ground in this locality is chiefly cement, from whence_ good prospects' can be washed, and it is tho opionion of many that under experienced management the ground would pay handsomely for sluiciDg. Thp Good Templars, who had infringed on Stewart's or the Puketui lease, have ceased operations,, having ascertained that they were beyond doubt within the lease. j?raters, in the El Dorado lease, are still trenching for tho reef, and any moment'they expect to find it. It is said that they have got tho bearings of the reef that was recently found in the r jax or Kcunan's lease, and intend to prospect at once for it.

In the Captain Cook claim, Puriri, tho big reef has been secured, and shows over 3| feet of stono. Iu appearance it looks very well, and it is intended to send 10 tons away at once, bags forwhich.were forwarded yesterday, •

A company has been formed hero for the thorough prospecting of the Gentle Annie spur, Tapu, and it is the intention of tho conipauy, which consists of 12 shareholders, to send out four men to thoroughly prospect the locality, their, operations not to be confined solely to the creek and the surface, but to undertake cross-cuts, &c., where found' necessary. 5 Tho Mclsaaca are out to tho south of the Two Sisters claim, and are said to hayo got on something good.
