He had been suffering from melanoholiafor some time, and. foolishly attempted to rush to that " bourne whence no traveller returns," but was foiled in the rash attempt; by the intrepedity of a passer-by, who descended the ladder steps and threw, a rope, which the unhappy man fortunately grasped, and was assisted up. This morning he got out of bed at the Governor Hotel, and* attempted to rush out in hie shirt, but was stopped. He was brought up at the Police Court today, and committed to the Asylum.—. Avery serious accident occurred in the cutting in Albert-street on Thursday afternoon, about 3 o'clock. A labouring man named William Metcalfe was engaged working below the hill, when two masses of earth in succession fell on him, the first knocking him down, and the second burying him so completely that it took his males half-an-honr to dig him out. When the earth was cleared- away, the unfortunato man' was perfectly un. conscious, and it was found that his thigh bone,was broken close to the body, and the back of his head much contused.
