Mr. H. Buckleton, gciferal manager of the Bank of New Zealand, returned from Australia by the Manuka. . i The Coalmine Owners’ Association elected Mr W. Reece president, Mr. Alison vice-president, and Sir George Clifford, ana Messrs. Plavell, Chven and Shatter Weston executive. x A gathering was held on Thursday afternoon at the residence ( of Mr. A. Carter, when his late fellow-employees presented him with a fountain-pen. Mr. N. Allen made the presentation and the recipient suitably acknowledged the evidence of goodwill towards him. A presentation of a Morris chair was made to Mr. W. W. Thomson at the Kawaroa Park Bungalow on Thursday evening by the West'End School Committee, from the chairmanship of which he resigned on taking up fanning in Inglewood district. Mr. JS. S. Medley, the present chairman, referred to Mr. Thomson’s valuable services to the school, and voiced the regret that was felt on bis departure. He had been connected with the school for 12 years, first as a committeeman, then as secretary and finally as chairman. Mr. S. 6. Smith, M.P., a former member of the West End Committee, Mr. W. J. Bennett, who has been associated with Mr. Thomson on the committee for many years, and Mr. D. P. Evans, headmaster, also spoke. Mr. Thomson, in responding, paid a tribute to the work done by former chairmen, especially the late Mr. H. J. Gilbert.
