AWAKINO.

FROM OtTB OWN CORRESPOND ENT. Dec. 7.—After several real summer days warm misty showers have gradually set in. So far there has not -been much favourable weather for shearing operations this season, and those farmers with hay to save would do well to have something definite from Mr. Bates before wielding the scythe. What price wool is likely to bring is probably the foremost question just now, and the hardest one to answer. The most cautious wool-grow r ers are of opinion that it will pay best to store it meantime. An unusual spectacle for Awakino is to be seen at the wharf where the Turanga and Mahoe are both berthed at present. A danger to life and limb exists on the bye-road in the township where several 4ft. cement pipes in a culvert were scoured out during the heavy rainfall some weeks ago. This place needs urgent attention. There are rumours of several cases of whooping cough in the district. It is to be hoped parents will take every precaution to keep the distressing ailment at arm’s length, and so avoid its spread. Mr, J. Wafson. manager of the Bank of Now South Wales at Bulls, is on a visit to his brothers-in-law, Messrs. H. and W. Kelly. H. L. Northern and Co., Awakino, have goods to make “A Merry Christmas.” Choice hams and roll hacon, Christmas fruits and nuts, lollies galore, a splendid selection of Christmas cards and toys. Ladies’ silk and voile blouses, fancy napery, men’s boxed suits, and other lines too numerous to mention. We;are here to serve you and will quote for any line of goods. —Advt. i 683
