It is not vor.y cheering to think that 90 per cent, of tho people of Greece are anxious for the return of,ex-King Constantino and his Gorman wife to the throne. Yet this as apparently the result of the popular vote on tho question, though tho figures are probably due to the fact that the opponents,of the oxKing abstained from voting. It cannot, however, ho denied that for the moment at any rate the feeling in Greece has turned strongly against M. Venizclos. whom wo are accustomed to regard as the saviour of the country. The Allies will, of course,, make no attempt to use force to prevent tho roturh of Constantino, bub fortunately they are in a position to make things very uncomfortable for him by cutting off the loans on which Greece largely depends for tho restoration of her finances. If the Greeks want Constantine they can have him, but they must either provide money for themselves or borrow it from Germany, which at the jwesent time is not in a position to lend to anyone. Tho Allies have treated Greece extremely well, as sho hna gained practically everything that she might have expected had she boon on the side of the victors in tho war. Under tho influence of Constantine Greece became practically tho tool of Germany, and caused great difficulties for the Allies. It is a mistake to look for gratitude from nations, and io is wise not to expect it in the case of individuals, so wo need not trouble much about the action of Greece. Possible tho present leaders of Greece will endeavour to arrange some sort of compromise which will secure them money even if Constantine has to he abandoned. Ono can imagine that thoir action hitherto has boon inspired more by hatred of Venizclos than by love for a not very attractive monarch.
