PAYMENT OF MEMBERS.

THE NEW SOUTH WALES BILL. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, Deo. b. In addition to strong Press condemnation, the Bill increasing members’ salaries is meeting with much opposition at the second reading stage in the Assembly. The Progressive Party has notified that they will vote against it en bloc. Many Nationalists opposo tire “grab” without first consulting the electors. Generally, the feeling is that Ministers, who give the whole of their time to the business of Parliament, are entitled to an increase, but that members are not. One strong opposition argument is a new idea which has arisen in regard to' the position of a member of Parliament, who is now looked upon as a man who obtains his livelihood from his position in Parliament, instead of being a man who served his country for patriotic purposes, thereby tho whole tone of Parliament being low-ered.—Aus.-N.Z.
