THE THEATRES.

THE PEOPLE’S,

LAST NIGHT OP “A HOUSE DIVIDED.’’ To-night’s is the concluding exhibition of the splendid Stuart-Blacktou production, “A House Divided,” being the pictured version of the - famous novel “The Substance of His House,” which created a furore in London and a cyclone on Broadway. Miss Sylvia Bremer does some of the finest work of her career, and she is supported by a strong cast. The bill includes gazette and comedy.

EUGENE O’BRIEN TO-MORROW, j To-morrow’s new ''bill presents an- I other of the famous Selzmck features, ‘The Perfect Lover,” starring Eugene O’Brien,Hhe accomplished screen-artist in a high'pqwered drama charged with sparkling romance and a riot of revelry. The matinee to-morrow continences at 2 p.m. THE EMPIRE. “ON OUR SELECTION”—TOMORROW. Steele Rudd’s humour was of the type that made excellent reading; the dramatisation df\ “On Our Selection” had, a phenominal success throughout Australia, and quite recently we hear it had a wondrous success in London, Now we have a film version made by Raymand Longford in 7000 feet under the personal eye of the author for E. J. Carroll, which is to bo screened for the first time in New Plymouth to-morrow afternoon at the Empire Theatre, and also to-morrow night and Monday night. Behind all the humorous and heart-breaking happenings that fell to the luckless family of Rudd, there was the undaunted courage that has made the drier portions of our continent yield their fruitfulness. . Thq comedy is human and clean, and there is not one disagreeable feature in the whole film which, runs to its happy conclusion, quite. naturally in a series of scenes and episodes where pathos is most skilfully blended with uproarious mirth. The scenery throughout is excellent, the actors being set in pretty and typical surroundings. The finest effect is the coming of the storm that presages the breaking of the drought. The dust-laden gale that obscures the sun is a remarkable piece of photography. The box plans are open at Collier’s. Prices fpr admission are D.C. 2s, stalls . Is 6d. Reserves 2s 6d.

\ EVERYBODY’S. THEDA BARA IN “UNDER THE YOKE.” How a beautiful Spanish .girl fought for the life of the .man she loved is thrillingly shown in the Theda "Bara super-production, ‘‘Under the Yoke,” •which will feature the programme for to-night and both sessions to-morrow at the Empire Theatre. Tho American is about to be put l to death when, through the quick wit of the girl, he and the heiress are rescued. Tho programme'also includes another five- 1 reel feature, Nature’s Gentleman,” and the two, features make an excellent combination, and form a most attractive and entertaining programme.
