HOME-GROWN FOOD.

APPEAL BY MB. LLOYD GEORGE.

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.

LONDON Nov. 16. Mr. Lloyd George, in tire House of Commons, during the Agricultural Bill debate, made a stirring appeal for more food production. “When'the harvests were good, Britain,” he said, “only produces a quafter of the wheat required, and this is a temptation to our foreign enemies to attack us by .adopting means by which we will be starved Moreover there is tho question of national health. Whereas 50 years ago bno-third of tho population were employed on the land, only one-ninth were so employed in 1919.” The Premier added that the soil of Britain was infinitely richer than that of Germany, Denmark, or Italy, and Britain’s food supplies must be greatly ■increased on the lines -suggested by the Selborne committee’s report.—Aus.N.Z.
