FRENCH RAILWAY THIEVES.

CLEVER SCHEME EXPOSED. LONDON, Sept. 26. A Paris message recounts how railway detectives have at length unearthed a vast organisation of thieves, who have long specialised in stealing entire wagon loads of merchandise by the use of forged papers. The gang employed the simplest means. Thus, a label on a wagon load of cloth daetined from Havre to Rouen, last week, was changed at the last moment before the train started, by the substitution of a fresh label with a new address for a Pans station, and an imaginary consignee. A few” days later a confederate appeared at the Paris statiolt and verified the wagon.-and the officials handed over the contents against a forged order. In another recent case, two wagon loads of sugar were similarly stolen, and a huge profit was realised. Some arrests have been made.
