Sept 10. ■ In view of the fact that there are 1300 unqualified teachers in the teaching service in the Dominion, said Mr. M'Combs, did tlio Minister of Education intend this year to attract recruits to the profession by placing pupil teachers in as good a position in regard to annual increments as those who entered other branches of the public service or banks. The Hon. C. J, Parr replied that the new scale of salaries would bring about the result referred to. The department was also hoping to attract another thousand teachers to the profession, which would be three times as great as the average number of entrants, by giving these trainees an intensive course. He hoped that in a year the position would be considerably relieved.
