A youth' named Peter Payne, of Chau, who has been working as a farm labourer at Leppefton, was arrested In New Plymouth, oh Friday on a charge of committing an unnatural offence at Okau. Pie was brought before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., in the afternoon and pleaded guilty to the offence, and v. as committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. He appeared before Mr. Justice Salmohd at 2 o’clock to-day, and was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention. Mr. G. H. Saunders returned by the mail train last night from Wellington where he has been busy all the week booking up attractions for, the local theatres. Amongst the attractions secured there will be a three nights’ return season of “The Diggers” early ■ next month, and towards the end of September a four night return season of tlie popular English Pierrots.. Mr. Saunders also booked a number,of special pictures including “The Romance of Tarzan” (sequel to “Tarzan.of the I Apes”), “The Rainbow Trail (sequel to “Riders of tho Purple Sage”), “The Shackleton Expedition” with' Mr.. George Dean to tell the story during the screening, and a( number of other features, including two serial stories, “The Mystery of 13,” and “The Great Gamble.” The popular monthly service at Whiteloy Church, which will be held at 7 o’clock to-morrow evening, will he conducted by tho Rev. C. H, Olds, 8.A., the organising secretary for the work among Sunday schools and young people’s societies throughout the Dominion. Mr. Olds was at one time a resident minister in Now Plymouth, and his visit this week-end is being looked forward to by many of his old friends. His subject on Sunday evening will be “Living Waters.” There will be a short musical service at 6.45, when there will be orchestral selections, solos by Mr. A. L. North (late- of Christchurch), who will sing Sullivan’s “Thou art Passing Hence,” and “Homing” delßoigo). The choir will sing the beautiful 'anthem, “0 Gladsome Light,” from Sir Arthur . Sullivan’s “Golden Legend.” On Monday the Rev. Mr. Olds will hold a conference with Sunday schools and Bibleclass workers and all interested in this Srork, and on Tuesday there will be a united rally of all the local Methodist Sunday schools. Both meetings will b© held in Whiteley Hall at 7.30 p.m.
