REUNION OF VETERANS.
PRESENTATION TO BUGLER WALKER. On Thursday afternoon Messrs. Alay and Arrowsmith’s tea-rooms were the scene of a most enjoyable re-union of Alaori war veterans, who had gathered together for the purpose of making a presentation to ono of their number, Bugler Walker. Tho latter, who is one or the oldest and most highly respected members of the association, is —owing to failing health—leaving shortly to take up his residence in the Chatham Islands, and it is for that reason that tho gathering was hold. About 25 veterans were present, and before the proceedings commenced a most delicious afternoon tea was handed round.
Air. Adlam, president of tho Veterans’ Association, spoke of the good work of their comrade from tho very earliest times and their regret at his impending departure from the district. He then, on behalf of tho association, presented Bugler Walker with a, cheque for £l4 10s, as a slight token of their esteem, and expressed their hopes for his happiness in his now sphere. Bugler Walker suitably responded, and in a feeling little speech thanked his many friends for their generosity and the honour they had done him, which ho deeply appreciated. Messrs. J. Andrews, T. Williams and W. F. Gordon also added their quota of good wishes to those of Mr. Adlam, and related a fow reminiscences in connection with the past. A short musical programme was given by Messrs. Greenaway, Crone and Adlam, and tho gathering terminated.with the singing of Auld Lang Syno, and cheers for Bugler Walker.
