FITZROY RATEPAYERS.
VIEW OF TEAM EXTENSIONS, MOEE BUSES FAYOUEED. The quarterly meeting of the Fitzroy Eatepayers’ Association was neld in the ritzroy School on Thursday night, to discuss- matters of interest to the suburb. Mr. E. L. Parkin presided over an attendance of 13 ratepayers. Several ratepayers protested that the prpposed expenditure was too great. While admitting that both Weslown and VogeJtown were entitled to a tramway service, they did not feel inclined to commit themselves to such an expenditure. The trackless, tram system was viewed equally unfavourably. 'Hie chairman expressed in storage battery cars simuar to the one now used on the Westown and Vogeltown service. An expression of opinion was called for from the meeting, and an almost unanimous vote was given in favour of the storage battery cars. The chairman pointed they had no wish to stand in tne way of other suburbs as far as passenger services were concerned,' hut they did not feel justified in giving their consent to loans for either the proposed extension of the present system, or for the. trackless system. A much better proposition, in tho opinion of the Association, was the storage battery car system, for which an expenditure of only about £6OOO would be required. Two representatives, Mr. C. F. Foote and Mr. L. N. Fairhall, Were appointed to attend *a meeting of tho Borough Council to confer with that body as to which system should bo adopted to the best advantage of all concerned. OTHEE MATTEES. It was decided to again write to the Borough Council pointing out that the tramway shelter at Strandon was urgently required. Tho question of erecting a ladies’ bathing shed at the Fitaroy beach was discussed, the chairman pointing out that as the bathing season was coming on it was necessary to come to a decision without delay. Ho estimated the cost at from £33 to £4o.—The opinion was expressed that tho most suitable form of building would bo one of concrete, and that the ladies of the district should be invited to collect funds for the purpose.—The secretary (Mr. O. Johnson) suggested calling a meeting of the ladies with a view to getting them interested in the matter. Ho advocated starting a campaign to raise at least £7O for the purpose. In reply to a question, tho chairman said that the negotiations between the Borough Council and the Harbour Board with regard to the beach reserve were proceeding satisfactorily, and he believed the Harbour Board would meet them fairly in regard to the matter.
