Heavy liquidation of stocks receipt of the news of the unfavourable Polish situation, industrial stocks fell one to ten points. At Montreal yesterday stocks showed the heaviest tumble for years. Holders of paper stocks were the heaviest losers, the drop running from one to 19 points.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 4. At the Addington market to-day there was a big yarding of fat stock, there being a double market in view of the Grand National holiday's next week. Fat cattle showed a marked jump in prices on recent sales, and sold throughout, for prime sorts, at about £4 per 1001 b. The sale was remarkable for a record Australasian price for a bullock (£204), two local butchers competing. He was bred and fattened by G. R. W. Trotter, of Kiirow, and has been a prolific prill l -taker in southern shows. He is a pure-bred Shorthorn and his live weighs is 30561b5. An aged purebred white Shorthorn bullock, bred by the Riccarton Estate, live weiglit 3052 lbs., brought £97. The yarding of fat cattle included entries from Glon Oroua (Kangitikei), and Balclutha. The mutton yarding included .a big proportion of prime quality sheep, vendors being represented from tho North Island and the western districts of Southland. The top price was given for a North Island Romney cross wether (£9 10s), Southland entries realising upTo £6 10». Store Sheep.—A fairly large entry. The prices, which opened at last week’s rates, eased as the sale progressed. Wether hoggets 22s 7d to 27s od; ewe hoggets 28s to 31s Id; mixed sex hoggets 26s 8d to 29s 2d; cull hoggets 10te to 20s 9d; good two-tooth wethers, 36s 3d to 375; ordinary twotooth wethers 27s to 29s Id; fairly good two, four, six and eight tooth ewes, 32s Id; good sound-mouthed ewes 39s to. 2d; sound and failing-mouthed ewes 2i7s to 32s 6d. Fat Sheep.—A very heavy yarding, values showing an advance on last week’s rates. Specially selected prime wethers £5 to £9 10s; extra prime wethers 60s to 955; prime wethers 47s 6d to 57s 9d; ordinary wethers 39s 6d to 465; specially, selected ewes to £5 _Bs; extra prime ewes 64s to 77s 6d; prime ewes, 40s to 52s 6d; medium ewes 33s 6d to 38s 6d; light and unfinished ewes 23s 6d to 32s 6d; extra prime hoggets 71s 6d; other hoggets 30s to 455. Fat Cattle. —A good yarding, with an unusual proportion of good quality. A keen sale ' eventuated. Extra prime show bullocks, ■ £97 to £204; extra prime steers, £4O to £SB; prime steers £27 10s to £3B; medium steers, £l9 to £26 15s; light and unfinished steers £l2 15s to £lB 10s: prime heifers, £lB 10s to £25 12a 6d; ordinary heifers, £lB 10s to £18; extra prime cows, £3O 10s 6d; prime cows, £lB 15s to £22; ordinary cows, £l2 to £l6 los. Vealers.—A rise of 5s per head was experienced. Runners made to £ll 10b; good vealers to £7 7s 6d; medium to £4 10s; inferior to 37s 6d. Store Cattle.—An improved sale. Three-year-old steers brought to £ls 10s; two-year steers £8 10s; yearling steers and' heifers, £6 10s; springing heifers, £8 14s ;■ yearling heifers, £4 16s to £6 2s 6d; bulls £7 10s.
