The Arbitration Amendment Bill, intended to'tviden the scope of the present Act, was read a first time in the House of Representatives. Another section of the House of Representatives and the Senate is organising opposition to the agitation for the transfer of the capital to Canberra. SYDNEY, August 6. The Government Statistician reports that food prices have increased 96 per cent, since 1914. The Progressive Party passed a-reso-lution disapproving of any proposed increase in Parliamentarians’ salaries. ■ The Land newspaper has abandoned its appeal. The second peace loan of £25,000,000 has been successfully launched. The Prince of Wales was amongst the earliest subscribers. The loan was also launched in other capitals. MELBOURNE, August 6. In the Senate, Mr. Millen announced that gratuity bonds would be accepted as payment to the hew peace loan. The House of Representatives read a second time the Industrial Peace Bill by 33 votes to 19.
