CHARGE AGAINST MERCHANTS. tiY TELLORAPH. —OWN n v a ..srONii i:nt WELLINGTON, July 21. “Selling paper oats’ was a charge levelled against Auckland merchants by Air. J. R. Hamilton (Awarua). He asked the Prime Minister if ho would make this illegal. Merchants, he said, were making a determined attempt to demoralise tho oats market to get themselves out of their forward sales. They had been doing tho same thing for two or tlirco years, and it was having a bad effect on the growing of oats. Air. Alassey said lie was sorry to hear such a dharge levelled against the Auckland merchants. Ho asked" what would happen if someone accepted the offers to soli. " .
Air. Hamilton said that tho merchants would find some loophole for escape. Sales never took place unless they wore bogus ones between tho merchants. , Air. Alassey; If tho hon. member will give mo particulars of cases I will have the matter looked into.
