LEPPERTOH.

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. Juno 12.—Both the New Plymouth papers are to lie congratulated on the stand they have taken with regard to dairy produce marketing. We look to the press, and I think rightly so, for much of our information and education on matters of such importance ah the future of the dairy industry of Taranaki. What is the position? A very important meeting took place in New Plymouth recently in connection with the dairy industry of Taranaki at which the press were not admitted. Why, it is difficult for the average farmer to conceive. If the scheme is a sound one the supporters have nothing to lose but everything to gain, and should welcome the fullest publicity and criticism. Sufficient, however, for me to say that tho local press has served a most useful purpose. Dairy factory directors are thinking, and will no doubt ask many questions at the Palmerston meeting. County roads in these parts arc in a pretty bad way and motorists should bo careful. Tho council seems to be doing its best, but I fear procrastination has made matters very much worse for them. Quite recently several narrow escapes have taken place at the Lepperton railway crossing. There is a nasty turn boro from the Mountain Road. The turn being on a rise with a dip on either side of tho Mountain Road, there should he no engineering difficulties to effect considerable improvement. Tho dip on both sides could bo raised, there being plenty of earth on the spot. Then again \re have the overhead bridge at Sentry Hill. This bridge in its present form is a menace to the public safety, a fact that all motorists in Taranaki will agree with. No doubt when a serious loss of life occurs at th.is spot those business it is will begin to think. A fairly large audience was present here last evening at a lantern talk on India and Uganda, which was given by the Rev. W. W. Bedwcll, a travelling missionary. The views and talk were most interesting.
