HAWKE’S BAY MEETING. NOTES BY “HISTORICUS,” The Hawko’s Bay Jockey Club will open their autumn meeting to-morrow, and judging by tho good acceptances received the club should have a splendid gathering. ‘ The non-appearance of Arrowsmith and Amythas in the Ormond Cup will rob the race of most interest, but Sasanof should be a worthy one to have bis name inscribed on the roll of winners of the race. Of a useful lot of hurdlers engaged in the Mangataraka Hurdles Kohu may have the best following. As Cashmere showed good form "at Riccarton I expect Stead’s gelding to perform well in the Longlnnds Handicap. Despite a big weight Chrysostom may bo the “elect” of backers in tho Nursery. Tiio Hawke’s Bay Cup bears an open appearance, and a pair which should run prominently arc Dusky Eve and Iran ribbon. Taunaha. will measure . strides with some good horses in tho Welter, and I think he will give a good account of himself.

Paonni and Asterina are nicely handicapped in tho Poukawa Hack, and a similar remark applies to Tigritiya in the Porangahau Handicap.
