ON SHIPPING AND TAXATION. Bv Telegraph—Press Assn..—Copyright. LONDON, April 25. The annual meeting of the Association of British Chambers of Commerce adopted resolutions deploring the detention of shipping at ports, and asking for an investigation with a view to the application of remedies, and favouring a cessation of direct Government control at the earliest moment.
It was decided to send a deputation to the Ministry of Transport and urge the constitution of a Central Waterways Board to control canals.
The meeting adopted a resolution declaring tho principle of war wealth taxation unfair and impracticable, and urging the need for a gradual reduction in the national debt by tho Taxation of current profits and current and not by thq, confiscation of capital, which was essential to tho maintenance and development of industry. A further resolution approved tho Government legislating to ensure that whenever a ballot or referendum is used in industrial disputes the voting should be conducted with tho same secrecy us in Parliamentary elections.—■ Imperial Sendee.
