STRATFORD.
FROM OUR RESIDENT AGENT. April 26.—Anzao was commemorated by a combined religious gathering iiu the Town Hall, at which the Rev. Mr. Neal the newjy arrived Methodist minister, was the, principal speaker. He speaks well and forcibly and, having served as chaplain on various fronts for almost the whole war period, he possesses first hand knowledge of war. Thd hall was well filled as it always is when! the religious bodies combine. Other tokens that the day was hot forgotten were the draping of the fallen soldiers’ portraits in the municipal buildings and other public and semi-publio places. It is hard to realise that five years have passed since that historic landing on Gallipoli. The site for the new post office- is being cleared of debris, but whether for tho hand-over frpm railways to post office, or as part of the general tidying up for tho Prince’s visit, I am unaware. In response to an urgent inquiry the Mayor is informed by the Prime Minister'that the transfer is on the point of completion, that the plans are nearly ready, and that wo shall be very well pleased with the design. It is rumoured that the election of a school committee to-night is to be made the occasion of a trial of strength between, tho warring political parties. I iiope we have more sense, but, as was remarked by a citizen of a greater Stratford, who no doubt, had the prophetic vision, “’Tis a a mad world, my masters!”
