FOOTBALL.

BRITISH ASSOCIATION CUP. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright, LONDON, April 25. There is intense interest in connection with the final Association football cup match at Chelsea to-morrow. Aston Villa are favourites on the strength of five previous successes, but Huddersfield have a strong following, largely on account of their dramatic rise this season.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A CLOSE CONTEST. The football cup final was hotly contested. Aston Villa on tlio wiime had tfie better of the first naif and did must of the attacking. Huddersfield during the second Inuf improved and playeu with throat vigour, but Aston v'ilia remained the more united team. Tlio defence of both sides was extremely sound ’Die second half concluded without a score and extra time was played. An Aston Villa lorward soon headed through and from a corner hide scored a goal. They thwarted Huddersfield’s cllorts to equalise. Prince .Henry presented the cup to the winners. MATf'V JN SATURDAY. CL,’ BOYS - (8) v. STAR (3). On the racecourse on Saturday afternoon UH Boys and Star senior teams met and tlio honours fell to the former. Star were short of a proner senior team, and started the maten with several places empty, but filled them with, emergency players while the play was proceeding. Old Boys showed eonside’rablo improvement on their form of the previous Saturday, and evidently have a combination capable of good development. In the first half there wore a, number of brilliant flashes of back play which, however, would require more finish before becoming effective against a strong opposing team. Old Boys pressed Star during the first half and the latter having no back combination played a plucky defensive game. A bout of rapid passing in winch Sykes and Macdonald were prominent ended in the latter crossing the Star goal line. Eggleton’s kick failed. The Old Boys’ half (L. Sole) continued to feed his backs, and eventually the ball passed from Bayly to Fuller, to Sykes, who made a strong run and transferred to Hamblyn, who secured a second try, which Sykes converted. In the second half Old Boys wore not so vigorous, and Star threatened their line on several occasions by forward play, but could not break the defence. A penalty against Old Boys saw Stroud kick a beautiful goal from almost half way; Ho had another similar opportunity shortly afterwards, but was not again successful. The final scores were: Old Boys 8, Star 3. Mr. R. Johnson was referee.

CLIFTON (32 v. TUKAPA (8). 'Tukapa journeyed to Waitara to play Clifton, and the home team showed itself to bo considerably the stronger combination. Tnkapa did not have altogether their best hack division in the field. Tries for Clifton were obtained by Graham, Goofilwin (2), T. M'Koy, J. Taylor, W. Soffc, P. Fuller, Pcnnial; four tries were converted. Boswell and Malcolrason scored for Tukapa., and G. Hooker converted- one. SECOND GRADE. STAR (9) v. OLD BOYS (0). The junior fifteens of the Star and Old Boys’ chibs also met on the racecourse, and tlio former secured the advantage. The winners played a dashing game, and Old Bovs were a better combination than the scores would indicate, Mr. C. Hoskin was referee. GET RICH QUICK ! ! !
