PERSONAL.
Mr. Eric Shaw, who has been accountant at Mr. Newton King’s Inglewood branch, and was recently transferred to tiie head office, New Plymouth, was the recipient of a presentation from tho Inglewood staff on Wednesday evening. Mr. rl. L. Cutfield, in making the presentation, referred to the esteem, in which Mr. Shaw was hold, and to the pleasure it had always been to work with him. Ho expressed tho best wishes of all tho staff lor tho health and welfare -of both Mr. and Mrs. Shaw. Mr. Shaw suitably responded. The Hon. H. D. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, arrived in Inglewood * from Stratford on Friday morning and was met on arrival by Mr. A. Corkill, chairman of tho Mon. Road Board (which is now officially non-existent), several members of the Board, Messrs. J. Sutherland (Mayor of Inglewood, H. Brown, and other leading citizens of Inglewood. Tho Ministerial party were then driven to the Mountain House via, the Lepper Road. Tho Minister, who was making Ins first trip to tho mountain, expressed himself as delighted with the drive through the bush, lie said that as long as he was Minister of Lands ho would permit of no encroachment on this splendid National Reserve. This comment was made in response to a remark that an agitation was on foot to have the reserve reduced from a radius of six miles to four miles, "by throwing open two miles additional for settlement, After luncheon and an hour or two spent in inspecting the points of interest adjacent to the hostelry, the party returned to Inglewood. Tho Minister received deputations late m the afternoon and attended the Inglewood County inaugural dinner in the evening. Ho left this morning for Feilding.
