EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board was held at the board’s office, New Plymouth, today, there being present; Messrs. H. Trimble, A. Lees; F. Hoskin, P. J. H. White, H. J. Eaves, and H. H. Grayling. , ' In the absence of the chairman, Mr. E. Masters, Jfl.P., Mr. White was voted to the chair. Leave of absence was granted Messrs. Masters and S. G. Sago (Stratford), Miss .Edwards (Te Roti), Miss Simniohos (Fraser Road), Mrs. Evans (t’uniho), Miss Surgeoner (Auroa), Miss Hinton (Haw-era), Miss Foy (Hawera). The following resignations were accepted:— '■ , r . Mias E. Perrott (Pungarehu), Miss Leech (Norfolk), Miss Cassie, (NewnlL, Mr. Bocock (Huiroa), Miss Smith. (Durham), Mr. Meyenber.g (Omata), Miss Sanderson (Puniwhakau), Mrs. Wishart (New- Plymouth Technical College). Miss Howard (New Plymouth Technical The appointment of Mr. C. W. Old as a member of the Frankley Committee in place of Mr. Hooker, resigned, was confirmed. . ” The action of the following committees in closing their schools on account of influenza w-as confirmed: Kaponga, Rotokare, Mangahumi, Tawluti, Hawet a, Opunake, Rahotu, Motouui, Tokaora, Matapu. The Ngaero School Committee wrote that it w-ould be a. waste of public money to attempt to repair the school residence land that a new dwelling should be erected. Copy of the letter will be forw-arded to the department. The Tataraiinaka Committee will be informed that the Board will grant a subsidy on-the basis of Jt for £ up to £5 towards the cost of asphalting school grounds. Various matters in connection with -the Ngaei'O. Ohangi, Tuna, AVest End, and Moeatoa w-ore referred to the beard’s architect. The matter of fencing a portion of the Matiero School grounds in order to provide a horse paddock, was referred to the chairman and Mr. Trimble. The Hillsborough Committee will he informed that the board will endeavour to erect the new- school residence as early as possible and that Messrs. Hoskin and White w-ill arrange to meet the committee in reference to the ques ■ tion of site. %

The Mere Mere Committee was granted permission to erect a war memorial iu the school grounds subject to the site being approved by the' agricultural instructor.
