LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN.

MEETING AT INGLEWOOD. The inaugural meeting of the newly formed sub-unit of the Paritutu group of the Legion of Frontiersmen at Inglewood ryas" held at the Town Hall, Inglewood, on Tuesday night, and was largely attended. Lieutenant Humphrey presided and among those present were the Mayor of Inglewood (Dir. J. Sutherland). Lieutenant-Colonel W'cston, commanding Taranaki Squadron, Captain Gilbert, Squadron Lieutenant, StaffLieutenant Gotdswo/thy and Staff-Ser-geant Major Hunter. At the outset of the meeting the chairman extended a very cordial welcome to the Now Plymouth comrades, and later Lieutenant Goldsworthy explained the objects of tho Legion of Frontiersmen. Quite a number of now members were enrolled, keen interest being shown by those present. An invitation was received from the Waitara troop to be present at their annual dinner. Various routine business was dealt with, and subsequently refreshments were served and a short toast list was honoured. After the usual loyal toast the Dlayor of Inglewood proposed “The Visitors.” Lieutenant-Colonel Weston, in responding.. referred briefly to tho early history of the Legion and traversed its growth up to the present time, stating that Frontiersmen were to be found in all parts of the British Empire; he also referred to the growth of tho Legion in Taranaki and mentioned that in June next the annua! New Zealand conference would be hold ,in New Plymouth. He, stressed the spirit of comradeship existing among members of the Legion and touched upon various ways in which such an organsiation could be of assistance to the Empire. He congratulated the Inglewood unit on the success so far achieved and expressed the hope that it would soon become one of the strongest troops in the Taranaki province. Captain Gilbert also responded. Frontiersman Buckley next proposed “Headquarters,” Lieutenant Goldsworthy and Staff-Sergeant. Dlajor Hunter responding. “The Ladies” was proposed by Frontiersman Priest, Frontiersman „Halcombe responding, and Lieutenant Goldsworthy proposed “The Paritutu Troop,” Frontiersman Brokenshire suitably replying. During tlio evening songs were rendered by Frontiersmen Darlow, Sutherland, Buckley, and Andrews, and recitations my Lieutenant Goldsworthy. The meeting terminated with dicers for the Inglewood unit and the visitors and the singing of “Anld Lang Syne.”
