FROM OUR OWN COItnESPONURNT. March 3.—The meeting which was held on Tuesday for the purpose of organising tho local unit of the Legion of Frontiersmen was fairly well attended, about 30 handing in their names. In the absence of tho Mayor Mr. Humphrey was voted to the chair. The objects of the movement were explained and after some discussion it was decided to hold a further meeting next Tuesday when more information would be available and some assistance would also be forthcoming from New Plymouth. Our bakers were a little "too previous” in raising the price of bread by Id per 21b loaf on Monday last. To-day it is reduced sd, making it 5Jd. ■The Mayor has been laid up since Tuesday suffering from a mild form of influenza Last week the Presbyterian Church lost three of its members. Misses Allen, Paulger and Wilson having left Inglewood. Miss Allen has taken a position on the staff of the Knupokonui Dairy Co., while Misses Paulger and t'bison have left to pursue their studies at the training college for teachers. Before leaving they were onteitained by their fellow church workers and were each presented with tokens of- esteem This morning Mr. Ken .Roberts left by the mail train en route to Dunedin ti take up his scholarship at the University there At the Inglewood Show last week tie coat which won the prize in the hand knitted coat section was rather unique —it being knitted from wool spun on a spinning wheel by the knitter, Mrs. Hansen. We wou favoured with glorious weather for our swimming sports yesterday, a large number being present. The close finishes showed that the handicapping had been in capable hands. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Inglewood Birough Council, Mr. Stewart, electrical engineer tendered his resignation which was accepted with ' regret and it was resolved that a testimonial be given to him before he leaves. At tho same meeting the borough workmen- asked for an increase in wages. It was resolved that the men bs asked to state tho amount of increaee required and tho matter would bo dealt with at the special meeting next Wednesday. The council voted tip to £SO towards the erection of a permanent memorial to the fallen soldiers of this district.

Parents will regret to hoar that Mr. Young, of the Inglewood School staff, will bo leaving on transfer to Mntiero.

Miss AY. Tarry, of Inglewood, was very successful at the New Plymouth Show, winning first for best lady driver, and first for harness horse; Mr. A. T. Archibald of Inglewood taking third in this class.
