SLAUGHTERMEN’S DISPUTE
A PROPOSED STRIKE. Per Press-Association. AUCKLAND, Feh. 24. Slaughtermen employed at Westfield, Southdown, Horotiu, and W.hangaroi Heads, hold a secret ballot on tho question of whether a legal strike should bo declared. A proposal to strike was carried by 71 to 14. The Act provides that a strike shall come into operation not sooner than seven days' alter the publication of the result of a ballot. Publication will bo made to-morrow, so that if the men persist in their intention to cease work, operations will continue for at least a week.
