THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.
SIR T. MACKENZIE RETIRES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. The High Commissioner. (Sir Thos. Mackenzie) will relinquish his position on July 31. It has already been semiofficially announced that Sir James Alien will succeed Sir Thomas Mackenzie. He is to arrive in England by July 31, and it is unlikely he will bo present at the first session of the new Parliament. . Discussing the matter Mr. Massey stated that a reorganisation of the High Commissioner’s office will be undertaken forthwith. There was no reason to find, fault with Sir Thomas Mackenzie, but it was necessary to keep tho office up to date and have a Commissioner who might be in close touch with the Dominion. The Government expected to send some officers from the departments here to take up positions in London. His own opinion was that the appointments of subordinates should be for two or three years, or probably changes would be made annually.
