When looking all over a winner Pnraoa hit tho last hurdle hut one hard and Ellis made a great recovery, hut Hylans just heat him on the post. Listening Post won tho Spring Nursery in good stylo, with La Paix finishing on fast. (-Shockingly bad horsemanship on the part of Bush, who rode Wardancnr, fairly throw the Otaio Plato away, the horso being beaten by a- nose by First Salute. Bingham had a groat break on liis field when six furlongs was covered in the Otaio Plate, and it looked as if they would never got him,- but over the last three furlongs ho stopped badly. Affectation led for the first six furlongs, Kilmoon for the second, and Mascot'for tli© third six_ furlongs of the Canterbury Cup. Lucid finished on well and heat Affectation on the post for second money by a short head. Afterglow, who was a good favourite and ran a bad race, finished last. Inah was responsible for the running over tiie first five furlongs of the Jockey Club Handicap, then Silver Link and Maioha fought it out all down the straight till" Elens just slipped up and beat Silver Link on tho.post for second. Demos, when racing well, fell five furlongs from homo, but Corlett was not Jiurit. Kipling ran a really good race, finishing fourth. Nightraidor finished on fast, hut wanted a more vigorous horseman. Tigritiya, Hurry Up. Melee or Almoner never had a winning chance. Rose-Wreath bolted for lj miles before the start of tho Oaks, arid then ran a good race. Dooley rode a patient race on AYarlove, and just heat St. Winnow by a long head. Aynsley intended putting Musson up on Wardancer and AYarlove, but it was well he altered his mind, on AYarlove specially. Flight Commander won the Randolph Handicap in good style. Russet, who ran second, paid just under £2O. Just after passing the post Fleethnm fell and Mandrake, ridden by F. Ellis, came down over him, Ellis being severely injured, breaking an arm, both legs-, ribs and two fractures of the skull. Astinome, well ridden by Dceloy. just lasted long enough to stay nut Gamecock and win the Avon AAtelter, with Arch Lassie and Macduff right up third and fourth. At Riecarton this morning. Gloaming ran six furlongs in linin. 13 2-ssec. beating Rossini by two lengths; Onslaught beat Ermine over five furlongs in Imin. 1 2-ssec.; Bon Spec ran the same distance in the same time; Moorfowl beat Winter Wind over three furlongs in 34 2-oseo., a great gallop.
