FLIES.

TO THE EDIIOB. Sir, —It is said a sense of humour is a dangerous thing but I am so tickled by a letter written about us by a learned though vindictive gentleman that I feel I must pen a few lines in reply. What 1 \vish to convey to, him is that lie and those who think with him may Wage war against us for all they are worth and we don’t care a flick of the wing« for their puny efforts to curtail our liberty. Sprinkle lime! What a joke; just imagine how many tons of lime (hard to get, I’m told) it would take to sprinkle over all the jolly old overgrown sections that are our happy honi'es here. hio, dear fellow wingers, you need not feel at all alarmed at “W.W.S.’s” threats—we’vo gots heaps of friends here who, to use the good old expression, “Wouldn’t hurt a fly,” and I should like to tell them that what "W.W.S.” says about us carrying all these deadly diseases about is simply bosh; there are millions of us (it does my dear old heart good to hear our birth-rate is growing rapidly),, and if there was any truth _in it, well, half the wingless population of this town should be dying off like—spiders by this time. In conclusion, as an old and respected fly here 1 wish to voip o a strong protest against the dirty practice I have noticed in several houses of hanging sticky papers from the ceilings. There ought to he a law in a Christian country against such Hunnish cruelty. Many innocent young flies are slowly tortured to death by this means. What good does it do? None, and man, I say, it’s fearsome waste of good silver which in these days of costly living' could he far better expended in procuring such necessary and nourishing articles as sugar and jam. “Fly and let fly” has always been the motto of —Yours, etc., T. 0.0. FLY.
