INDUSTRIAL COURTS BILL. DISCUSSED BY THE COMMONS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. LONDON, Nov. 10. In the House of Commons debate on the Industrial Courts Bill there were strong Labour speeches in favour of dividing the Bill into two parts with the ostensible object of consulting the trades unions on the subject of conciliation tribunals. While accepting the proposals for standardising wages Sir Robert Horne (Minister for Labour) refused to accept an amendment declaring that the standardisation of wages depended on the trades unions’ acceptance of tribunals. Tho Labourites insisted on a division, and the amendment was defeated ■by 204 votes to 46.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. BY-ELECTION CAMPAIGNS. LONDON, Nov. 11. Vigorous election campaigns are proceeding at Chester-!e-Streot (Durham), Croydon, Thanet, and Plymouth. Lady Aster’s spirited light in a three-cornered contest at Plymouth is attracting’ the principal attentioil. Her ladyship’s unconventional methods and keen sense of humor are producing lively scenes. She has already received the Premier’s good wishes.
A National Democratic candidate is challenging a Labourite at Chester-le-Street, but there is a straight fight on party lines at Croydon and Thanet between Conservative Coalitionists and Independent Liberals.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
