WAITARA.
FROM OUE OWN OOEBESPONDEKI. I Nov. 11 Tho Bishop of Auckland is making his annual visitation to this parochial district. His Lordship ar- ; rived from Now Plymouth on Saturday j evening. After administering at , early communion on Sunday, he iofr for Okoko, and in tho afternoon conducted tho service at Dronui, and on Sunday night preached in St. John’s Church. Tho building was very ■ crowded with a reverent congregation. After the lessons, tho Bishop dedicated the now memorial fout in proper form. His address was practically a memorial .service to those who had fallen, and in whoso honour tho memorial fout has been placed in tho church. On .Monday his Lordship went to Okau. Last night a banquet to their return- ' ed brethren was given by tho local lodge of the Ancient Order of Druids in tit. John’s Hull. Places were laid for SO, and there were very few, if ' any, vacant chairs. Tho banquet was 101 l entirely in the hands of Mrs. Sutherland, and she evidently put forth her best efforts, both in regard ; to the menu and the decoration ot the tables. Tho chair was taken by Archdeacon Evans, and as tho hosts were in full regalia, it was quite a pretty spectacle. .Mr, Harry Dearth’s concert party in tho Theatre Royal last night attracted only a moderate house. The concert was first-class, and 1 doubt whether anything nearly its equal lias before been heard in Waitara. Mr. Harry Dearth was, of course, the principal feature in the programo, and his singing was very fine, for there was not only splendid control, but lie lias also a magnificent voice, as all tho world knows, or should know. As I have said, Mr. Dearth was tho principal feature, bub tho vocalist, the ’cellist, and ■ the pianist were equally good, and were well worth hearing on their own account. The programo had to be doubled on account of encores; but even then tho concert seemed all too short. The only fault to find was the discouraging mini her of empty seats, when it was reasonably expected that the house would have been filled for so famed a singer.
