THE VIRTUOUS WATERSIDER

SHOCKED AT SUGGESTION OF ROUGHNESS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 21. The secretary of the Waterside W orkers’ Union repudiates the Napier allegations as to carelessness in handling ienzine cargoes. The men are fully Hive as to the necessity of careful handling. If the union is held responsible for such disasters as that on the Tainui then they will refuse to work such cargoes at all. Wooden vessels are unfit for such work. Many cases were leaky on arrival, but the shippers loaded them, being anxious, apparently, only for quick dispatch. He approved the suggestion that an inspector might be appointed by the Haihour Board.
