Tho Wanganui Golf Club’s annual tournament was concluded on Saturday in ideal golfing weather. Never in the history of the club has this fixture been moro successful from every point of view. Nearly 100 different competitors entered _ for the various events, and not a single hitch occurred in connection with any of the arrangements throughout tho mooting. On Saturday tho chief interest centred in tho semi-finals and the final for tho championship. In tho semi-finals H. Grosso beat G. Saunders by 2 up nud 1, and Harold beat 1. Saunders by 3 up and 2. In the afternoon Crosse and Harold fought out tho final, and tho great number of spectators who were out were treated to one of tho closest contests that over took place in any final on tho links. Tho first hole was halved. Grosso won tho long second in a beautiful 5 against the wind, Harold won tho third, then all tho subsequent holes were halved up to tho tenth, which was won by Harold in perfect golf. Tho 15th, 16th, 176 h, and 18th holes wero all halved, and the competition finished all square, and extra holes had to bo played to docido tho contest. Tho 19th was halved in perfect fours. Tho match ended at th« 20th hole, which was won by Harold. Grosso’s long play was quit© a feature of the game, but his short game was not quite so strong as usual.
