RAHOTU.

raoit oob own correspondent. A rather peculiar and painful accident occurred here on Tuesday to_ a Maori boy named Tepene Teoka. The lad had been sent to the store by his people on horseback. He arrived safely and made his purchases, which; he was carrying when ho attempted to mount his horse for the homeward journey, but in’ springing from the ground to tho horse's back he evidently underrated his abilities as an athlete, as he jumped too far, and in consequence fell heavily on the ground the other side, a broken arm being fue result. He was takeu into Hughson’s store, where, fortunately, Mr. Ooombridge, chemist, happened to be, who skilfully rendered first aid to the sufferer. A car was soon obtained and the boy taken to the doctor at Opunake whdte his injuries were attended to. A series of meetings of ratepayers are being held in the four chief centres of the Opunako harbour special rating district. Commencing at Opunake on Wednesday night, Mr. G. W. Rogers, chairman of the Opunake Town Board presiding, briefly mentioned the object of the meeting, which -was the raising of a loan for harbour improvements at Opunake. He then introduced Mr. J. P. Hughson, chairman of the Harbour Board, who, in a very able manner, addressed the meeting, pointing out the decided beneficial results to the district that would obtain from having a workable port at Opunake. The cold snap experienced during the last week has not been conducive to a very enhanced milfe supply at the factory, some of the hail storms being of the fast and furious order.

Very high prices were given for pedigree and grade Friesians at Mrs. Morrow’s annual clearing sale. Lower Kabul Road.

Mr. Alex. Baber, junr.. and family have left the township and gone on to their newly acquired farm on the Opurapa Road. " . Mr. Jack Guild, an ex-New Plymouth High School boy, who has been for some time assisting in the Hughson’s Ltd., drapery department, has been appointed to a position in the Lands and Deeds Office at New Plymouth, and commences his duties there next week.
