BUTTER AND CHEESE.

Clearance of cheese. bt telegraph.—-otvn correspondent. WELLINGTON, August 13. It is reported that the butter equalisation scheme is to form the subject of a petition to Parliament with the suggestion that, instead of tlie fund being met by the butter-producers, it should be furnished out of the Consolidated Revenue. A good clearance is being effected ‘of cheese in store, and it is estimated that not more than 254,000 crates are now in store in the Dominion, of which 22,000 are in the South Island. The difficulty of obtaining medium cheese for the local market has been overcome by cutting up the export size for counter trade.
