UNION OF CHURCHES.

DISCUSSED BY A PRESBYTERY. Per Press Association. TIMARU, July 5. The Tiniaru Presbytery to-day considered the question of the. union of churches. Revs. Tockciy (Geraldine), in the absence of Rev. Stinson (Trinity), moved, and tho Rev. (Jssbcr (St. Andrews) seconded, a motion in favour of union, provided a satisfactory basis of union could bo agreed upon. Tho Rots. Harris (Chalmers) and Begg (Highfield) moved an amendment that, while union i« desirable, on practicable grounds, tho denominational system, which lias nob been without its uses, cannot he suddenly brought to an end without a. grave risk of increasing the evils of dissent and disunion, whose removal is chiefly aimed a-tj that the Presbytery would favour a federation of the churches, but at tho present time the churches are too divided, and feels that there is not bemnd the movement the spiritual impulse which would warrant a change so great and irrevocable. After discussion the amendment was carried by 7 to 3. !
