INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
AUSTRALIAN DOCTOR’S REPORT. INFECTIVITY DECLINTAG GRADUALLY. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received August 5, 10.50 a.m.) (MELBOURNE, August 5. Dr. Cumpston’s report on tlie influenza epidemic states that the agents that brought about the decline in the epidemic were not necessarily inoculation, inhalation or isolation in hospital, but there was a marked intrinsic tendency in the disease towards a natural decline in virulence and iulcclivity. Tie claims that the maritime quarantine was of the greatest value, but says that the land quarantine was quite ineffective under the system recently attempted. further the report states that 05,000 soldiers have been or will lie discharged from the Expeditionary force in Australia, many of whom will still bo infective. After showing the prevalence of venereal disease in Australia Dr. Cnmpaton urges the establishment of a Federal Department of Health to direct a campaign against it.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
