SCHOOL COMMITTEES ASSOCIATION.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly mooting of the Taranaki School Committees’ Association was held in the Technical College engineering room on Monday night, when 1 lie following committees’ were represented ; Messrs. S. G. Smith, M.P. (chairman), G. 11. Dolby (Central), AA . \V. Thomson, W. J. Bennett, J. Sanders, J. Garcia (West End), A. I’. Lister (Fraukley). W. K. Morris (Oakum). J. Downs, 11. Keller, G. King (Bell Block) .and 11. C. Sampson and F. Stanley (Hillsborough). There was also a fair attendance of teachers and others interested in education. The Association resolved to support and co-operate with the AA est End School Committee in its desire to have the West End School removed to a more .sanitary site. It was pointed out that cases might occur in which it paid parents better to employ their children and pay fines imposed for truancy instead of sending them to school. In view of the following resolution was carried; “That the Taranaki Jockey Club bo urgedto make it a condition when issuing trainers’ licenses that any trainer shall not have in his employ any boy who is under 14 veers ol urge, unless such boy is the holder of a sixth standard certificate. 51 An address was then given by Mr. IV. H. Moves, ’ headmaster of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School on *‘Secondary Education.” A report of this appears elsewhere.
