THE PEOPLE'S. PAULINE FREDERICK IN ‘HA TOSCA.” “La Tosca" has ever been one of the most successful operas and stage plays. Her powerful acting is ideally suited to the tragic part or La Toscii, the Voaiitiful Italian singer, who sacrifices herself To save her lover. June Elvidge is the slar of the World drama. “The Power and the Glory,’’ shown to-night at Everybody's, and is supported by Madge Evans and Frank Mayo. The story is one with a strong heart interest and a thrilling conclusion.‘while the touches of pathos and beauty make it a very delightful screen play. ” The story tells ol the manner in which a beautiful young girl who has been brought up m the mountains in the most abject poverty, goes down to a mill town to get a job so that she can pay off some of the debts which the family owes and also get some now eloihes and such like. She succeeds in til is respect, and in addition she meets the wealthy young son of the millowner. Romance then enters her life and with it various trials, doubts, adventures. and through it she has to face tlie scandal of gossips who sec evil in everything. The ending is a happy one and the supporting east is strong. As usual with the World dramas the production is in the highest degree credit able. To-night will be the final screening.

Alary Pick ford’s former director. Mahlon Hamilton, Tom Scautchi, Ton Cody, Thomas Meighau and Edwin Stevens arc among the list of leading men taking part, Thomas Jollorsun. Franl; Currier and Harry Holder are to play character roles and Anna (J. Nilsson and Kathleen Williams will bo seen in the principal feminine support of Miss Stewart.

Irene Castle lias almost completed her lirst Paramount feature, “The Firins Fine.” under the direction ol Charles AJaignc. Included in the supporting caste are llobert J. Steele, David Powell, J. H. Gilmore, Prank Losoe, Rudolph do Cordova, Charles Craig, Philip S. Rise, and Robert Sellable.

Marguerite Clark is to be seen shortly in ‘‘Out of a Clear Sky. her latest Paramount .super-feature. Happy romance and spirited comedy combine to make this a highly entertaining production, which provides the dainty star with a delightfully “different” role. Thomas .Meighan has the part of the hero, and Marshall Neilan directed the picture, which is based on <i story by Maria Thompson Davies. Chester Conklin, who has been with the Mack Sennett organisation for live years, has joined the Fox forces, to star in Sunshine comedies. Before starting work on his first production for Dasky, having signed a year’s contract with that company, Irving Cummings is appearing on the speaking stage in California on an 11 weeks’ engagement. Eileen Percy is now with the Metro forces, where she is supporting Bert Lytell in his now starring vehicle, “Onc-thing-at-a-time-to-day,” under the direction of John Ince. Alma Rubens and Daniel Carson Goodman, an American novelist, have made a contract with Putho for the production of eight pictures during the coming year. Hobart Henley, one of the. cleverest and best known directors of the silent drama, lias left tho Golclwyn Film Corporation, and has formed tho Hobart Henley Productions. Inc., and will release jus pictures through tho Independent Sales Corporation. Air. Henley lias engaged many of the leading screen stars, including Alao Marsh and Pauline Frederick, whom Air. Henley directed in some of tho biggest successes. Some of the productions Air. Henley directed, starring Alae Marsh, are “The Glorious Adventure,” “All AVoman.” “Mopey A fad,” and “Tho Face in the Dark.” He directed Pauline Frederick in “Tho AVoman of the Index,” “One Week of Life,” “Tho Peace of the Roaring River,” and Frank APlntyre in Hex Beach’s “Too Fat to Fight.” Elliott Dexter, the popular and handsome loading man in Paramount productions, is to bo starred by that corporation, having recently signed, a contract which covers a period of years. Air. Dexter Ims begun work under the direction of Cecil B. do Afille on a, picturisation of Sir James AI. Barrio’s play. “The Admirable Crichton,” in which he will play the loading part. Following tho completion of this feature. Air. Dexter will begin his lirst starring vehicle, under the direction of William C. do Alille. the title of which is to he “Don’t Change Amur AA’ifc.” which will be a sequel to Cecil B. do Mille’s “Don’t Change A T our Husband.” in which Air. Dexter played the male lead, opposite Gloria Swanson. Aliss Marguerite Clark has begun work- in Los Angeles on a screen version of Clyde Fitch’s comedy, “Girls,” The picture is being made under the direction of AVa Iter'Edwards. “The Admirable Crichton.” by Sir James M. Barrie, is being dramatised by tho Artcraft Film Company. “The AVoman Thou Gavcst Ale” is also being released shortly. Thomas Holding has been_ engaged to support Bessie Barrisoalo in “Broken Threads.” her new picture for Eohort-son-Cnlt. Albert Roscoe was to have nlaved, the part, but became ill and had to give it up. It is reported that Anna Q. Nilsson is soon to become a siar at the head of her own company. The promotion is given in recognition of Major Warwick’s- distinguished service as a member of the General Staff of the A.E.F. Major Warwick is being starred by the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation in “Secret Service.” a big special production being directed by Hugh Ford. He recently signed a contract, with that, organisation for a long term and Us next Paramount feature will be ‘Told in the Hills,” from the novel by Marsh Ellis Ryan, which, at the time of its publication, was one of the most sensational fiction successes ever written, and Ann Little will appear as his leading lady. The Famous Players-Lasky Corporation announces the formation in London of a J,000,000 dollar corporation which will produce Paramount Arterait pictures against European backgrounds, and build studio plants there. The name of ibe new firm is the Famous Players-Lasky British Producers. Ltd. Special pictures, starring American and European players, will be made there. Many prominent British financiers have joined this American enterprise.
