The p: - ipal repairs to the cable systems have been completed, but prewar transmissions to Australia will not he resumed until the Indo-European system, traversing South Russia, is restored. The Eastern Extension Company is spending £3,000,000 in improving the system to Australia. In view of the coming competition with wireless, a new cable will he. laid at the earliest date from London, via Gibraltar, Malta, and Singapore. Possibly another line to Australia will he duplicated. High-speed instruments will be installed, increasing tho capacity ot the existing cables. The Eastern Extension Company hopes to bo able to transmit direct from London to Arlolaide with the speediest automatic instruments. —United Service.
