PIGEON SHOOTING. I’er Press Association. HASTINGS. August 2. Air. J. A. Casey (Wanganui) won the Now Zealand Championship, gold medal and GO per cent, of the sweep at the live pigeon shoot, which was concluded at the Hawke's Bay Gun Club grounds on Friday afternoon; and L. ADKelvie, J. H. Nit/, and F. AV, Whittle divided second and third money.
RAILAA'AY CROSSING KEEPERS
CHRISTCHURCH, August 1
Tho Christchurch branch of tho Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants is forwarding g.ievances relative to wages anti work of railway crossing keepers to t7he general secretary of tho A.S.R.S. in AVellington for ccnsiderntfoi; by the executive on Alonday next. It is complained that permanent crossing keepers at Christchurch are sometimes required to work a minimum of 60 hours a week, and a possible maximum of 72 hours a week.
OBJECTION TO ALIENS
AVELLINGTON, August 1
The executive of the AA'ellington Returned Soldiers’ Association passed -t resolution strongly objecting to the appointment of any alien to the public or semi-public positions. The executive decided also to give hearty support to the Dominion executive in its demand for a ctmmissiou of inquiry into the administration and future application of war furds.
