Mr. AVm. Roy APKcan has boon appointed a stipendiary magistrate and warden.
Messrs. J. W. G. Brodio and C. Peacock of Wellington arc on a short visit to New Plymouth.
Mrs. O’Dowd, Fitzroy. has received advice that her son, Rifleman Cyril Roberts, is returning by the Cordoba, due in Wellington on August 30.
At the recent examination for the State certificate in nursing, the four local hospital entrants, Nurses Margaret Corkill, Gertrude 1.. Greatbatch; Beryl Annie Hirst, and Myra LansIcy passed with distinction, all gaining over 75 per cent. There are very many among our readers who will regret to learn of the death of Mr. George Scott, which took place at the hospital on Thursday after a brief illness. Mr. Scott \uiJ born in New Plymouth -sixty-two years ago and learned’the trade of a carpenter and builder with his father, the late Mr. AV. H. Scott. Though a deaf mute from early childhood, and unable io rend or write. Air. Scott took an intelligent interest in events. He was of a cheerful disposition and kindly nature and made many friends. He was an -active supporter of the East End BoJMi Committee and rendered valuable help in carrying out the improvements there.
