NEW OFFICIALS TO BE APPOINTED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 30. The Minister of Education stated today that Cabinet had approved of the appointment of a Chief Inspector oT Primary Schools, whoso work, inter alia, would be tlic supervision and co-ordina-tion of the work of the inspectors of primary schools throughout the Dominion and the supervision and adjustment of tli/) syllabus of instruction. There was the important question of school books and need for doing something in the direction of ensuring conlormity of text books on certain subjects, such as arithmetic ami geography. The school building branch of the department also needed strengthening, not only to meet the extended bnildmg programme now being carried out, but to provide for future needs. Therefore it had been decided to call applications for an officer having architectural knowledge and experience to assist Mr. Spencer. The Minister stated that it was the intention toinvito applications in Now Zealand for the position of Director of Education. Dr. Anderson’s retirement would take effect from March 31, 1920.
