THE MAORI CONTINGENT.

OVER 2000 SENT OVERSEAS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 21. After the application of the Military Service Act to the Maoris, three ballots were held. The number of recruits actually produced) was small. Some 55Q names were drawn, and' of these 99. men were sent to camp. The task of compilation of the roll was one of very great difficulty. The Government Statistician found it impossible to get for the Maoris complete registration schedules. Rarotpngans, Fijians, Gilbert Islanders and Elice Islanders were brought to New Zealand. Of these a total of 631 embarked for active service. The total number of Maoris, volunteers and conscripted, sent overseas was 3237.
