OPUNAKE DISTRICT NURSE.

RESIGNATION OWING TO LACK OB ACCOAIAIODATION.

Tho resignation of Nurse I. D. Holdsworth, district nurse at Cpunake, was accepted with regret by the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board at Wednesday's mooting! The nurse, in forwarding tier resignation, said that tho duel reason lor it was absolute lack of comfort, the only accommodation available beiii£ a room in the publidiouso hardly suitable to her position or the convenience ot patients. The resignation takes efieet from the end ot tue present month. The diairuian said that eiforts on the part of the executive committee, to secure ilu; services of another nurse had not met with success. It was thought that perhaps sullicieut interest in tiie question could be aroused in tho district to enable a cottage hospital to bo built. Two clergymen from Opunako who had formed a deputation to the committee on the mutter had been recommended to seek information as to how the bruti cottage hospital was conducted. The speaker recognised tho need for some sort of accommodation nearer than New Plymouth tor people in the Opunake district and mentioned tiiat the Government would give a £ for £ subsidy on all donations. Air, A. H. Halcombe mentioned that the Uruti hospital was built by means of subscription and subsidy. Besides its value to patients tho cottage provided a home for tho nurse, which was very necessary, in view of tho nature of the duties of a district nurse. Air. S. Campbell recognised tho need for a cottage hospital at Opunake and that the great trouble in getting a nurse was tho lack of accommodation.
