FIRE ON THE WAITANGI.

DUE TO BENZINE FUMES

A Per Press Association. WANGANUI, June 17

An outbreak of fire on the steamer Waitangi at Patea, on Tuesday evening, was ■ aused by fumes from leaking benzine tins igniting when a naked light was used near the hold. The flames rose to a great height, but were soon overcome by prompt action. Foul- men in tho hold had narrow escapes.
