Wilson, (formerly Member for Tauarunui) at Puketiti, near Piopio, comprising seven rooms, was destroyed by fire at an early hour on Tuesday morning. A preliminary outbreak occurred on Monday shortly after 9.30, when Mrs., Wilton who had just retired for the night noticed smoke in the room, and found that the woodwork above the mantelpiece in the dining room was in flames. She quickly gave the alarm and, after a strenuous fight lasting over half an hour, the fire appeared to be have been completely suppressed. "The scene of the outbreak was watched for over an horn - and, as there was m> sign of a recurrence, the family again retired.to. rest. At 2.10 a.m., Mrs. Wilson was awakened by the sound of crackling and woke the household. The flames had a firm hold of the ceiling of the dining room and the gable in the front part of the house. A portion of the furniture was removed, but a great deal was destroyed as the flames spread with great rapidity. The house, an old, one, was completely demolished ;in about.2o minutes. There are two small policies on the house and furniture, but Mr. Wilson will be the loser to the extent of several hundred pounds, most of the family’s personal effects having been destroyed.,
