BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Now Plymouth Borough Council was held on Monday evening. The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) presided, and the following councillors were present: J. Clarke, J. W. Hayden, F. J. Hill, W. F. Short, AY. A. Collis, A. S. Brooker, R. L. Parkin, H. V S Griffiths The' various monthly reports were adopted subject to amendments. GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE. ’ ’ Tlie council subsequently met as a general purposes committee, .tlie same councillors being present. . Tho lion, secretary of the AVestern Park Board (Mr. AA T . B. Davies )wrote asking for sanction to be given to the board to remove the macrocarpa trees on the Outfield Road side of tho park as it had been found expensive to keep them from overgrowing and destroying tho live fence on the road boundary.— It was decided, in the circumstances, to grant tho necessary permission. Councillor Parkin suggested that in view of the shortage of metal the County Council should ho approached to see if it would supply tho borough with metal from its depot on the AVaiwakaiho River, about 20 chains from the bridge on Devon Road, where there were thousands of yards of metal.—The matter ivas left in the hands of Councillors Parkin, and Clarke and the engineer. Three letters from the tramwaymen’s union were dealt with. Two related to’ the time of annual holidays, and arrangements for extra -houdays in return for working on peace celebration days. Tho third referred to the housing position, and asked the council to hasten any movement it intended to take in connection with the housing of employees.
