About 44 Stratford business firms have so far signed the requisition for an all-night telephone service. For the petition to be successful, it is necessary to have the support of twothirds of the total number of firms, which will mean a further number oi between 20 and 30 signatories, says the Stratford Post. Judging by Mew Plymouth, Stratford will find the all-night service a great convenience, subscribers showing anything but a falling off when the change was made here. The subject of a motor tax is to engage the attention of the Chambers of Commerce Conference next month. Tbs Wellington Central Chamber has given notice of the following proposal: “That an annual tax bo imposed on all motor-driven vehicles. That such tax be levied on horse-power and weight combined. That the tax be applied towards the improvement of arterial roads. That the annual tax be collected by tbe local motor registering authorities. That the tax on motor-driven vehicles be allocated to those local bodies responsible for the maintenance of arterial roads in proportion to the amount each local body has spent annually on such maintenance. That on account of the large amount of useful information a-t its disposal the New Zealand Automobile Union bo invited to send delegates to participate in the discussion on remits relating to the question of motor tax.” Have you an invention P If so, patent it! Many men spend long hours perfect, ing an idea, only to be robbed of it by someone else who gets in before them. If you have an invention —patent it rio'lit now! It may mean a fortune!— Consult Henry Hughes, Ltd., Patent Attorneys, 157 Feathorston Street, Weiliogtoa. Mfi
